In 2022 27% of Canadians, 8 million people identified as having at least one disability. Let that number sink in for a bit. Many more people choose to not disclose their disability, and some estimates would suggest we double the 8 million and then you might have a true picture of disability. In digital design we often talk about the 80/20 rule, design for the 80% of your customers/clients and the rest will follow. But if we flip that on its head.
What if we designed for the 20% (27% of Canadiana) what would the outcomes be? How would we measure that? Can we measure it? And what about the unexpected benefits for those who are not disabled or able-bodied? Think about the potential return on investment when we make life better for all!
