Renee DiResta

Policy Lead, Data for Democracy

Renee DiResta is a tech entrepreneur and researcher based in San Francisco. She is a policy lead at Data for Democracy, and an associate researcher with Columbia University Data Science Institute. Renee has deep expertise in the strategy and tactics of groups leveraging social platforms to manipulate communities, elected officials, and the media. She has worked with USDS, the State Department, ARCYBER, and others in mapping disinformation and manipulation operations and developing counter-mechanisms. In 2017, Renee was named a Presidential Leadership Scholar, and had the opportunity to continue her work with the support of the Presidents Bush, President Clinton, and the LBJ Foundation. She is the author of “The Hardware Startup: Building Your Product, Business, and Brand,” and is an angel investor and adviser for hardware startups. Previously, Renee was part of the founding team of shipping logistics tech startup Haven. Prior to Haven, Renee was a Principal at O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures (OATV) and an equity derivatives trader at Jane Street Capital, a quantitative proprietary trading firm in NYC.
